    Post New Orleans Show

Just curious if anyone is going to be visiting the New Orleans show coming up on 3-5 June? I was planning on attending as it will be my first show to visit. Here's hoping for a little overload!

I'm from N.O. but refuse to go there. Way too much crime...and I have a relative there who talks my ears off each time I go there! Went to both the Dallas, and the Shreveport show, and dropped too many $$$. Have fun...but don't get mugged! Betty :-)

Betty, I almost drove up to the Shreveport show a few weeks back (have a sister who lives there). But a trip took me out of town the week before so I decided a relaxing weekend at home would hands down beat another moment in the car!!

Shane, I miss the way N.O. looked. It used to be a beautiful old city with a european flair. Since it's not being taken care of any longer, it simply makes me sad to go there. My cousin who lives there also grows orchids. He keeps them outside except when the temperatures dip below freezing... which is rare. Betty :-)

I still have my favorite areas Betty and I still run the half marathon down there every year if possible. There will never be another replacement for a run that takes you through the garden district, french quarter, and on to city park!!

BTW, Shane, I sure did enjoy seeing your "Tina Turner" which you previously posted pics of!!!!! You were originally from LA?

I hope you get the chance to come home for a visit Shane. You prob already know, but i'm still sad to mention charity never reopened after the storm, and no plans for it to reopen are known for the time being (at least not by me).

As for the show... I'm hoping for a couple more encyclias and maybe one or two miniatures for the windowsill... and Shane's pics have me jonesing for my own personal Max. ten.!! If you ever hybridize it I hope to see the name "Private Dancer" used for the name of the offspring!

    Cool

I never did get a chance to talk about the show... This weekend is the Lafayette show so I'm still doing a bit of running around... LOL

So last weekends NOLA show was the first show I've attended. One of the Texas dealers was there with a very neat Ghost Orchid on display. It was the first time seeing this, and many other species in bloom, that weren't in a book! Of course, in my haste to get there after work I left the camera sitting on the bookshelf so there'll be no sharing of the adventure. Beyond the displays I did manage to add some new species to the windowsill collection--mostly encycs, brassos and a couple of miniatures inlcuding a spiffy P. grobyi. (The grobyi wasn't blooming but by the following Tuesday I noticed two new inflorescens had popped up which are lengthening by the day. And as promised I also now have my own Max. ten.!! Several were in bloom both potted and mounted, but I went with a nicely symmetrical potted individual that was not blooming. Didn't realize that even the non-blooming ones have a distinct fragrance to the foliage. I can smell this one when I get home in the afternoons from the downstairs entryway. All in all I really enjoyed it and it was good to see so many species in bloom that I would normally only see in the books. Now, more... off to Lafayette...
