Default Unbelievable - My Second Orchid Society Meeting Ever

Just by way of a little background, I joined the Atlanta Orchid Society last month and attended my second meeting this past Monday night. There are about 125 members, but I'm told only 50 or so are at any particular meeting. Anyway, at each meeting, members bring in examples of their best orchids for judging. (There are 9 different categories, such as the Cattleya Alliance, Vandaceous, etc.). My visit to Professor David Glass's greenhouse here in Atlanta in June (there's a thread on it somewhere in the forums) was sparked by what I call the Great Cymbidium Repotting Project, because David is head of the brand-new mentoring program and offered to help me out.

In any event, he has been a true mentor, extremely knowledgable and patient - like so many of the Forum Members here. A few days ago, he suggested that I bring in a few of my plants, just to get a sense of how the judging works - blue ribbons are firsts, red, second, and white, third - so I brought 4 plants: an Encyclia Cochleatum, a Brassidium Shooting Star 'Black Gold', and 2 of my paphs - the burgundy and the Supersuk Raisin Pie species hybrid.

Well, the pictures tell the story, so here they are:

I'm still stunned, but my fervent thanks go out to all of you who have helped me so much in the past few months - your input has made all the difference!

    Yippee!

    Maura

PS I was told by the main judge that my burgundy paph is an AOS contender, and instructed me to take it to the monthly AOS judging session this coming Saturday - gulp...

Excellent work well done. I joined my orchid society (The North of England Orchid Society) two months ago and still have to pick up the courage to attend the monthly shows and meeting. There is one this Saturday 13th aug that im debating whether or not to go hopefully i will pick up the courage like you did and attend.
    Well done
