Default Some pictures from the 20 World Orchid Conference 2011

First of all I would like to apologise for the poor quality of the pictures. I was totally unprepared for the conditions for photography at the exhibition.I had planned this as more of a recce outing , to familiarise my self with the conditons at the exhibiton, to be followed by another visit the following day to concentrate on taking picures. Thus my wife, my second son and his wife and our 2 grand-daughters and a friend of theirs came along as well.

I didn't realise that the exhibition was held in the convention hall of the Marina Sands Casino. The lighting was fluorescent, and vast as the hall was, the crowd kept getting in the way of taking a decent photo ( and this was on a weekday! - 13 Nov). I hadn't brought my SB600 flash and had to depend on the on-camera flash of my Nikon D200. No tripod either: a lot of good that would have done with the crowd milling around. And for handheld shots without flash I had to use ISO 800; and with flash too in order to get a small enough f-stop for a reasonable depth-of-field.

What about the second visit? [I]The best laid plans of men and mice[I] .........While standing on the escalator and looking back and teasing my youngest grand daughter, I didn't realise that the escalator had reached the top and I took a bad tumble and aggravated an old shoulder injury. I could hardly move my right arm after that. That put paid to a second visit.

I hadn't posted any pictures earlier, hoping that others would be posting theirs. So here's hoping that other pictures will follow soon from the other members.

These Phals are part of the Thai Display. Phalaenopnis made up a large part of the plants on show at the 20 WOC.

Thanks Zainal and Ian. The old injury took nearly 2 years to recover fully. This time it is already better after nearly 2 weeks, but still can't lift heavy weights overhead. Unfortunately couldn't take pictures of individual plants as I had planned to do that on my second visit.

Lucky you! I am so happy you were able to attend and a little ---VERY--- envious. What a beautiful experience and the displays are breath taking. Your photos are wonderful. There can never be bad pictures of orchids in bloom. Thanks for taking us there. Hope your shoulder has healed. Thanks again for sharing.

Thanks for sharing these Yew. Have been waiting for somebody to post these pics. Nothing much in the net at the moment. Yours are among the first I've seen. So sorry to hear about your shoulder. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Thanks again.
