Default Need advice getting my orchids ready for AOS judging today

I'm heading over to the AOS judging today with a couple of orchids. I've posted the pictures elsewhere, but I'll put them in here just for convenience.

The first one is Phragmipedium Cahaba Gold (Phrag. Andean Fire x Phrag. boissierianum)

    Name: Cahaba Gold spike.jpg

The second is a long shot - was better last week. It's Aliceara Matthias.

My questions are really pretty basic - how and how much do I "pretty" them up for the judging. What kind of cache pot - I have very plain and some with chines/japanese painting; do I put sphagnum moss around the top of the medium? What about staking? Any advise there? And, lastly, they're going out in the cold to the car and then out of the car to the exhibits table. Any tips on how to protect them from the temp. changes? Right now it's 25 degrees outside and will reach a high of 57.

    Thanks for any help.

All I can say is good luck and if you win something don't let the same person take pics.

Sorry, just getting to this post, Maura. I am sure if you were going today you have already gone. Hope all went well. On trick to transport your orchids and avoid drastic temperature changes is to completely box up your orchid inside your home. Then warm up your car before moving the orchid box into it. Keep your car the same temp as the home and that should help. Judging is really about the flower and not the plant. Most shows, plants pots are wrapped in black fabric so that they really disappear. That said, do clean the leaves and make sure any stake is super thin and any ties are small and unobtrusive. No big butterfly clips on the spikes.
