My brother's daughter in law is from the Delta area near Ho Chi Minh city and her family has invited us over to visit them. The trouble with this period of the year is that it is also Chinese New Year and as the eldest of my generation I'm expected to be home to receive all the junior members of the family and it would be extremely difficult to get away during this festive time.
The festival lasts for 10 days, the elders in the family are often very busy in the early days of the new year, because there will be many descendants and cousins came to congratulate them, people to meet chatting happily together after a busy year.

This year there are many big and very beautiful Adenium flowers with vibrant colors.

Here's sculptures are made pumpkin, watermelon and radish

Not much different from us but here the festivities last for 15 days and for the Hokkiens (people from Fujian Province) the night of the 15th (full moon) of the New Year or Chap Goh Meh is particularly significant. During this night unmarried maidens throw mandarin oranges into rivers and streams and wish for a good husband.
