I have kept my masd alive for more than a year, I'm feeling pretty good about that. When I got it, it lost about 1/3 of the plant pretty quickly and was declining. What helped me most was putting its small pot inside a larger pot that doesn't drain. It sits on a lot of gravel so that the top of the mesdevalia's pot is above the lip of its larger pot. I water it and put it damp into the its sleeve pot. The increased humidity seems to have helped it survive. It gets really hot here, though we have AC. Interior pot is clay, its in mainly sphagnum moss and exterior pot is ceramic. It hasn't, however, gained in size or bloomed, though I think it tried a time or two.
