This is a discussion on Iturraran Botanical Garden Flower Show within the Orchid Shows and Society Meetings forums, part of the TalkTalk category; I don't know if this is the right place for this post or not, but ...
I don't know if this is the right place for this post or not, but if not, the moderator will change it. Like the last twelve years, the last weekend in april in Aia (Bask country-Spain) in the Iturraran Botanical Garden there was the international plant and flower show, with over 40 exhibitors. There were plants of every kind, like roses, pelagorniums, ferns, trees, etc. There were also 2 orchid exhibitors I've been buying from in the last 4-5 years. These are the ones that came home with me:
Cattleya warneri Semi-Alba. It was in bud when I bought her on Saturday and on Wednesday, the buds were already open. There is no scent that I can detect, but I don't know if this one is supposed to be scented.
2 Masdevalia Hybrids, Masdevalia Kimballiana and another one, more orange colored, but I forgot to ask for the name. I'll write the vendor to ask for the name:
Howeara Lava Burst
That's all. I hope you like them. I'll have to do a research on how to keep the Masdevalias alive in our hot summer. The vendor told me to repot into a clay pot with Sphagnum moss, and have te pot always standing in a few mm of water. Any other suggestions?
My Sedirea Japonica just bloomed. What do you think of its scent? Can you describe it? I have been at a loss. Yours appears to be close to the end of the flowering.
Good luck on the masd's. Mine started out doing ok but seem to be in decline now. I have both in s/h to try and help keep the roots cool. I think with the clay pots and a masd, you might want to soak the pot when you water.
Great selection of beautiful plants.
Very nice shots. Thanks for sharing.
So far my Masdies are hanging in there. I have them in plastic mesh/net pots with sphag as the media. (My thought being that this way there should be both more air able to get to the roots as well as greater evaporative cooling for the roots.) When I water I allow them to sit in about 1cm of water and do not rewater until the water in the saucer is gone.
Regarding the Masdevalias, I'll repot them when blooming is over. I usually soak the pots when watering no matter what type of pot it is.
Nice new stuffs wow.... the catt is so pretty , I had bad experience on Masdevalias the vendor grow them in small pots once I brought them to lowland everything change within one month, lost some of the leaves, stunted finally vanished.I cant grow them .
I just realized that my masd's started their decline when I put a fan on them for air movement. I have turned it off for now. I want to see if they do better without extra air movement.
