Great shots, Jason!
My favs were Rory Jones (1), roths and William Ambler! Some of those Masd's were incredible too. All were outstanding!
Jason, the roths shows more forward curl on the dorsal and synsepal than I usually see. Do you know how favorable that is for judging? Is flat preferable?

I favorite was Paph. Jerry Spence. It was so beautiful with bold colors and towering size. Then at the end I saw the Lynleigh Koopowitz and it looked like some kind of pet animal! I wished I could take it home.
Thank you for sharing your pictures.

Going to have to add Cam's cloud and William Ambler to my wish list. The China Dragon is already on it. Love the Hawaii Wings, have one that is very dependable.

Those were some great closeups! What camera are you using! Puts mine to shame.
Thanks for the great memories!

thanks to all!
Julie, flat is definitely preferable from a judging perspective. sometimes you can get away with curl but there are enough roths with perfectly flat parts that even slight reflexing of the dorsal can be a deal...err award-breaker. that roths was nice (very few roths aren't) but not nearly as nice as some of the ones in years past. (they may also reflex with age so rush them to judging when they first open!)
here's some past ones that really knocked my sox off:
http://homepages.nyu.edu/~jlc314/2004%20GNYOS/Paph.%20rothschildianum%20'Perfection'.html
http://homepages.nyu.edu/~jlc314/2003%20GNYOS/Paph.%20rothschildianum%20'Mont%20Millais'.html
Ania, that Lynleigh Koopowitz is one of the greenest I've ever seen--very distinctive shade to a flower that is almost always paper-white.
Tindo, I use a canon powershot s80, just got it a few months ago. it's only a 3.6x optical zoom which makes close-ups more difficult but it's like 7 or 8 megapixels so you can crop without sacrificing too much resolution. I like how the colors are pretty much "true" on it and don't require much adjustment. I don't like that some of the pics were significantly overexposed...hard to tell at the time though, and that was before I found how to adjust the power of the flash.

Jason,
I'd seen your 'Perfection' pic before, but I missed the 'MM'. The trouble now is that you can't ever look at a roths quite the same again. Those dorsals could shade a football field! And the color is so wonderfully dark...
I have an NBS from two recent FCC clones ('Sam's Best' x 'Rex'), and a tiny seedling that the grower stopped selling (it's his secret weapon for awards and he wanted to keep them all). It's ('Tokyo Fantasy' x 'MM'). I believe TF won a gold medal at the JGP. So now all I have to do is wait a gazillion years for blooms...
Ah...roths dreams...

Julie,
I agree--once you see the new FCC material, the old 'Charles E' x 'Borneo' just doesn't cut it anymore. I'm waiting on a 'Rex' x 'MM' myself, oughta be blooming size but it is taking its time to "mature".
