For now, here's the show haul (not really a haul, but I shouldn't have been buying anything!)

    Lycaste aromatica
Lycaste campbellii (a division of 'Green Mite', AM/AOS)
Masd Red Baron (maculata x coccinea)
    Den atroviolaceum, dwarf form

Sedirea japonica (considered by the Japanese to be a Fu-Ran in the category with Neofinetias),
    And then some blooming-size Catts:
    Catt labiata rubra
    Catt labiata semi-alba
    Laelia purpurata var coerulea
    McTiredOfTraveling
Gee, McJulie, I thought you are not going to buy any more orchids??? How many windowsills that you have? teheheheee ... And the lycastes could be hugemongous? and the laelia purpurata, when it grows up, it will be a monster ... oh dear ...

Well, after all of those photos, there is no need to post my shots of the same plants! LOL. One bit of information I will add is something I learned from Ron-NY. He told me that the kovachii cross in the middle of Julie's photo in this post is the first bloom of this cross EVER. So, you are looking at the first bloom of Phrag. kovachii x Cape Sunset.

Thanks for the shots Julie and Qing.

    Cheers,
    BD

That phrag popowii definitely deserves the blue ribbon! It has so many spikes (I see four) and three blooms on each one, too bad they aren't all openned. I think the label reads "Phrag caudatum var warscewiczianum" or "Phrag caudatum x warscewiczianum (registered as Majestic Tresses)" I can't tell. Looking at the plant it is a popowii. Phrag popowii is a compact plant and it typically carries two blooms sometimes three. This plant has two spikes with three blooms, it was grown well.
(warscewiczianum was an old name for popowii...there was an naming confusion....the orginal herbarium described was found out to be actually a phrag wallisii (the lighter long petalled type) so phrag popowii was then not a officially described species. Wallisii is a synomom of warscewiczianum, the lighter coloured one. I can't spell or pronounce warscewiczianum so we shouldn't use it, it is already a name that is used by hobbyists to decribe one species and taxonomists another similar species, that's too confusing)
Fran, it is Phrag caudatum var. warscewizianum 'Tomasse'

excellent pictures! one of these days when I get some time I'll post mine.

I despise the name 'popowii' for what I consider phrag warscewiczianum. this naming convention has been used for 100 years and this re-naming smacks of self-promotion. just because it may be technically correct to rename this thing doesn't make it right, especially if by this new convention you have to call wallisii warscewiczianum. just a bloody mess if you ask me, and thankfully it appears the RHS isn't ready just yet to adopt this. that plant at the NY show was most-impressively grown though, and well-presented.

It was a nice show but I didn't care for the set up compared to the last few years on the rink. It was too tight and there were some dark corners.

I did meet BD on Saturday...Nice meeting you in person Bruce!! Sorry I didn't get the chance to meet others from this forum

I only remember Julie got a couple of shots in my apartments. We met in such a short time at the orchid show with Bruce, no one even remember to take photos. Maybe Julie got some shots with Bruce. I forgot to mention it is very nice to meet you, Bruce and wish you hang around with me longer.
