Bruce, you're just showing off now...LOL!

Drats, Augusto! I'm going to miss you. I head home Saturday morning. I really can't take too long off, but it is good to be back in New York City!

The scary bus ride was...scary. We went very fast and I really tried to ignore how close we came to other cars and trucks on merges. The high speed was all right on the open highways of Massachusetts and Connecticut, but when we got into the Bronx and Brooklyn it was like something out of a Men In Black movie!

But I didn't die, we made good time, and now I'm sipping a very fine cabernet (Murray the local wine dude suggested it, and I bought it as a hostess gift for my old friend, Betsy. She went out to her dinner and I'm waiting for Qing to get home from work - we'll go to dinner with her husband and non-English speaking father. So of course I opened the hostess gift and am happily consuming it. Qing, take your time calling me back!)

Orchid show tomorrow. I have to give Betsy some face time, so I'll probably head down to the show late morning. Then I'll make lots of noise (I've recorded some piping on my cell phone) until Bruce finds me, and we'll ooh and aah through the afternoon (recharged the camera's batteries last night.) An early dinner before Bruce peels off to his next bragging-rights play, and Betsy will enthusiastically join whoever's left for the forum NYC bar-hop.

Okay, need to refill my glass now...

(of which hopefully there will be some interesting ones this year, unlike last).

I should be there around 11 or 1130 this morning. I am having brunch with a former student, and then we will head over to the show. I hope to see some of you!

    Cheers,

    BD

Ok, here is an update: I was happy to meet Piper and Qing today at the orchid show. I got to see Julie's book illustrations - AMAZING and spend about an hour chatting with her. At the show, I took several photos which I will post next week when I am back home. Qing and I did not have much time together, but we may see each other again tomorrow afternoon. I plan to go back to the vendor area tomorrow and see what feels like jumping in my suitcase.

    Cheers,
    BD

I like the the visual imagery of the orchids jumping into your suitcase BD.

"Geronimo!" they call as they take a leap out into the abyss, in the hope that they get a place at the palatial Arkansas greenhouse that they have heard about only in folktales.....

For shame, the poor Catts that had desperately hoped that they would get to live in the Flooftastic californian palace of glass, they will have to wait another year for their yearned for salvation. Hoa, how can you disappoint all the poor 'chids.

Sounds like you are all having a fine time - whilst you are in New York, I hear a certain toy store does some mahoosive teddybears - fancy running out to buy one and stuffing it full of precious petals for Elena, Judi, Steve and I to post back to Engerlund?

I went down the vendors area again yesterday with Julie and came home with more orchids. I can't go back there again or I will simply leave my wallet at home, LOL. It was fun to shop with Julie, I really enoiyed it.

There were a lot of "geronimos!" heard yesterday! Brue was impressed I hadn't bought anything when we hooked up. Little did he know I had left my purchases with several different vendors so I could continue shopping unfettered!

I was sorry we didn't get to meet Jason, Becky or Joan (I knew Ron wouldn't be around until today), but it was fun, nevertheless. I have photos of plants and people, and some funny tales, but I'll wait till I get home tonight to regale the group.

Encouraging Qing to buy a plant here and there was great fun! It didn't take much! I would whisper the joys of some species or other, and while she didn't alway select the one I was pimping, she did find something else she "had to" have...

Sorry to miss all of you, didn't stay very long (had to get back to work). smaller than years past in terms of volume, I think. Highlight for me was the small group of kovachii hybrids. pretty electric, pics to follow. Only ended up with a phrag wallisii in sheath, although was really tempted by some of the floofy catts.
