New York International Orchid Show
The 2007 New York International Orchid Show is scheduled for April 18 - 22, 2007. I will be in the city during that time and would love to meet our RVO OrchidTalk forum friends at the show on that Thursday or Friday, April 19 & 20. I will be in the city on theatre business for my university, but plan to spend as much time during the day on Thursday and Friday as my colleagues can handle.
I know several of our members live in the city, but you may not be able to get away during a weekday, but if you can and would like to say hello, please let me know.
I will take my camera, so those who are unable to attend can still enjoy the beautiful orchids and orchid exhibits. Two or three years ago I was in town about two days after the even was over. There were orchids all over the city. They were taking down the big tent when I arrived.
So, mostly by chance or blind luck, I will be there to experience the show this April.
I hope to see as many of you there as time and budgets will allow!
Cheers,
BD

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

Too bad you can't be around for the weekend! I won't arrive until late Friday and will be at the show Saturday and Sunday. It is usually quite impressive and I am sure you will enjoy it. I usually can get into the show prior to opening on Saturday and Sunday. This works out for I can take pictures prior to the crowds.

it really is a nice show, bruce, with lots of plants. last year was a down year for paphs but if you wanted phals, there were truckloads. I have clinic on Th-F but might see if I can skip one morning to beat the crowd...will try to catch you if I find out I'm going.

Oh, please take lots of photos. I was at the NY Botanical Gardens last fall and was SO disappointed that htey didn't have any orchids. Apparently they do their HUGE show in the spring. Anyway--sounds like heaven. Enjoy!

I went back when I lived in NYC, but that was 12 years ago!
What's the detail on the show schedule? It used to be open to the public during the week, back when it was at the World Financial Center (I worked at the WTC)?
I'll drive down, and Aaron is game to come, but we'll need to sort out dates.

Not to go off topic, but the NY botantical Gardens in the Bronx? No Orchids?? They literally have thousands of orchids on site in their greenhouses (which are on occasion open to the public), in the library/archival building, along with the main Haupt conservatory. If you are a member you can get guided tours of the private stock greenhouses, always a treat
On topic, I'll be in town during the weekend, I'd love to host but I don't think my father would appreciate the idea....
The GYNOS show has a great buyers market and I've always found the greatest deals (although not the greatest choices) at the last hour of the last day, like three for one specials.

The NY botanical garden does have some orchids in Haupt conservatory, they are mounted on tree trunks, just like what they naturally are in the rain forrest.
I can be in the NYIOS in the evening on both Thur/Fri, Bruce, if you hang around in the show longer.

I have theatre tickets on both nights, Quing, but I would love to meet you. I will get my schedule worked out, locate the theatre, and find out how long it will take me to get to it and then we can make a plan to meet! That will be awesome!!
Cheers,
BD
