Orchid SHows are amazing! I try to work on several displays for my society every year.... Wish I had started earlier as I missed learning more from our senior members... It shard not to be too AR about putting up an exhibit... but in the end just do what you can - try to get more members to bring plants for the display... and enjoy looking at it when done.... if it doesn't win anything ( like my last one) that's just the way it goes... they all have to come down 3 days later... Now that's sad! I'm going to the Fairchild Gardens ( Coral Gables Orchid Society) Orchid SHow in 2 days... can't wait!

Go for it. It's great fun. I haven't set up my own display yet but, I try to get as many of my blooming plants in as many shows as possible. My society enters displays in multiple shows every year. I have 10 plants in the Maryland Orchid Society show this weekend. I look forward to seeing how they used them in the display and if I received any ribbons etc... That's the other fun part of this (for me anyway) ribbons and trophies to display.

Showing in most cases is a club event.example our display at longwood was 10ft x 10ft we had 60 club member plants at deepcut we had 90 plants on a 7ft x 7ft display area. It's how many ribbons does our club take? The display has to change depending on the area and the plants you can collect in bloom. What kind of plants are being show ? Some plants are just fillers and just add color to the display. How rear is the plant is it common ? Most members know what they have. Some members will tell you the plant is not for judging. My best advise is if you want to show and win stay away from buying common plants.

What i forgot is if you want your own display you do not compete against other clubs. Check that out with the showing club?
