    Default Bulbo echinolabium

echinolabium: echino = hedgehog, labium = lip, the hedgehog lipped Bulbo...I just have never seen hedgehogs this color...well maybe in my hippie days

The flower is about a foot tall, unfortunately full flower shot didn't turn out wel. I have had ones that have lengthened to 15" or 16". The hinged lip alone is about 4". It is a sequential bloomer. It is a very cool Bulbo species, IMHO.

To get an idea of what the full flower looks like, here is an old pic

another nice feature of this one is that it is a sequential bloomer. therefore it will continue to bloom off the same spike over the course of a period of time. Once this flower drops another bud will develop and open.

Ok, I read somewhere that this is one of the malodorous bulbos, but I saw one for sale at a show once and didn't detect any smell. Does yours have a scent at all?

Geoffrey it does has an odor but although it is not pleasant, it is not overpowering. At shows in the dark environment many fragrant species don't emit their fragrance
