Default Bulbo smitinandii

This was purchased as a purople-lipped Philippine species I believe it to be Bulbo smitinandii, an Indo-China species. The flower is about 1.5" tall. This will bloom on and off during the warmer months It is grown bright, mounted on treefern.

Very elegant! I love the curves! Thanks for the side and front shots. It really helps us see how these flowers are shaped. Nice!

Cheers,
BD

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors....but they all exist very nicely in the same box. ...Hmmm? .

OHhhh... I really like the way the lateral sepals kind of fold in on this one, I'm gonna have to get one of these too...

I don't have control of the greenhouse temps..Winter lows are 60 F max high are 85. Most of the Bulbos would prefer warmer than intermediate but beggars can't be choosers. I grow in a friend's commercial greenhouses. He specializes in Paphs and Phrags.

hmmm.... 60f = 15.5 celsius... that's like a whole ten degrees celsius more than what I can provide....

guess, I'm gonna have to keep enjoying them through your posts!

post script: I just realised that vicariously enjoying it is better for my wallet...

and your nose

I find that once you get beyond a certain point...the rest of collecting is not as expensive...I increase my collection through trading.

lol, yes.. I quite forgot about the 'fragrance' on these beauties...

it's funny, there's always that one species that I have to pay that little bit extra to have... the latest is Paph randsii... it's on it's way, in flasks... but gosh almighty, I have to really hide the receipt for it!
