    Thumbs up Angula Dubia

This is the first blooming of this orchid for me. Well, actually this is the second blooming in this cycle. The first time this guy bloomed, it put the spike out and into the middle of a large phal's air roots and the bud developed inside the root mass. I did not see it until LJA pointed it out. He cut away some of the phals roots to get the bud out of there since we had not seen it bloom before (and the phal was a huge root mess anyway), but right after we freed it from its prison, it committed suicide and fell off the spike. A couple of weeks later it decided to try again and here is the result. I took probably 50 photos of this one because I did not know if it would open up more or change color. Here is what I found. It only opens up partially and the color shifts from green to yellow, to a dusty, golden-orange. It has a spicy fragrance too! The leaves are big and paper thin and completely fall off at the end of the growing season. I thought the thing was dead, but the P-bulbs remain plump.

BD, In your last photo, do you see the person in the center with their head bowed and hands clasped in front of them? Looks like they are being sheltered by angel's wings.

Interesting flower, Bruce. I'll be curious to hear from you as to how long the flower lasts.

It is still going strong. The photos I posted were from over two weeks ago now. I have been taking photos a few times each week. The color is starting to fade, but it still has a nice spicy fragrance.
