Eulophia alta (Wild Coco)
Known as the Wild Coco or the Young Palm Orchid (owing to its plicate leaves). I photographed this orchid today on the western side of Brevard Co, FL, somewhere between the towns of Geneva and Mims. The entire plant had 31 flowers and buds...each flower is about 1.5 inches tall.
Canon Digital Rebel XTi (EOS 400D), Sigma 105mm macro, natural light.
Enjoy!

Interesting shape and nice color combo. I've never seen one of these before.

Great pics Prem. I thought these only grew in South FL. Love the second pic where the bloom is peeking around the stem. Kind of like "BOO!"

Hi Tami,
E. alta is found throughout peninsular Florida (and some say even into southeastern coastal Georgia).

Thanks, Prem. I hope to find some on our next orchid hunting expedition. We will be in the area from Sarasota to High Springs.
Your website is very interesting. I enjoyed the field trip essay to find Pteroglossaspis pottsii. Your pictures are wonderful!
