a ground orchid. can somebody help identify this?

This is a discussion on a ground orchid. can somebody help identify this? within the Orchids of Other Genera IN BLOOM forums, part of the Orchid Photography category; LOL! alien flowers.. but they do look "happy"....

    i checked photos of acanthephippium, and i'm happy my plant looks close to being identified.

    Its definitely an Acanthephippium sp. but it looks too red to be mantinianum, I think. In any case, its a nice looking plant.

    i voted too chunky. with such limited space, i'd most likely skip it, even if i actually saw one for sale here, which i'm certain i never will. however, if i had a back yard, i'd try it. i love ground orchids. i have a few bletillas i planted a year ago, hoping for flowers this year. your orchid looks very different. i've not seen many red ground orchids before, so that's a big plus.
