    Default Huntleya burtii

My first attempt to upload a picture....

First flowering of this Huntleya burtii, a species found in Central and South American wet montane forest. Get close to it and it has a very nice subtle fragrance of some sort of spicy cinnamon-type smell. Flower is about 7 cm across.

It is stunning! I have wanted to try this genus...I may have to after seeing your pic. Do you grow other Huntleya species? I have a pic of one I took in Peru and have not tried IDing it yet.

Thank you all for your nice comments. The photo is very true in colour and I was very pleasantly surprised when the flower opened, as I didnt know what to expect from it. It cheers me up every night when I come home from work, especially with the dark nights starting now.
Ron, no, this is my first, and so far only, Huntleya but I am so pleased with it that I am now on the hunt for more species. I belive there is about 14 species but not sure how many of those are commercially available. I've had it for about a year and it grows in loose sphagnum in a plastic basket. Never let it dry out. It had two buds earlier this summer, both blasted when I went away for a while and it probably dried out just a little bit too much. But it quickly recovered and sent out this bud instead. I really do like it.
    Thanks again,

    Helena
