    Default Bulbo orthosepalum

This is one of the 7 species in the Bulbophyllum Section Macrobulbon
I obtained this one as a large seedling and this is the first bloom on it. I have a division of another one in my collection as well. The flower is about 3" long...nice stale odor of mouse nest.

Such unusual and unique blooms, incredible shape!
A very different kind of beauty.
(I will not even comment on the mouse smell ...)

The flowers remind me of some type of raptor chick sticking their heads out of a nest. It is one of my favorite Bublo species.

Joe it took a long time to collect some of these species. I have past the 200 mark with Bulbo species. and NO I am not obsessed, LOL.

I like the look of it...although, like my stapelia I'm guessing it'll never be the living room centerpiece!! lol

True...not one I bring home from the greenhouse. I added a Stapelia gigantea to my collection in 2008 and am looking forward to blooming it.

That is awesome. I'm not to keen on the mouse fragrance, lol. But the bloom, oh my, that is outstanding. I it!

    Cheers,

fortunately the fragrance is not strong, you have to put your nose to it on this species. I have one that never fails to fool me, I walk into the back greenhouse and check the bottom of my shoe for I figure that I stepped in dog poop. I get fooled every year, LOL!

Ron, I'm happy living vicariously through your Bulbo experiences, and I always enjoy your posts!

I'm not launching into a Bulbo collection, because I can enjoy your surperior collection online.

    Thanks for the experience!

Julie you are welcome! I do so enjoy collecting and growing Bulbos. They and I are a strange breed, LOL. Bulbos are not for everyone's taste but I find them very intriguing as well as a rewarding species to culture. It is a very diverse genus. I have gotten a few people hooked on them over the years.
