Margo, we know you and I can definitely predict each of your orchid shopping stories hehe, mine are similar. (saves shipping costs, there are some orchids we always want to buy, I have been working hard for the past month and its time for some reward, I have been spending carefully cooking food myself, that saves 50 bucks a week, and so on...... the reasons are countless, may be we make a list hehe.

This time wasnt shipping cost... I was going for "get 5% off on a 100 order" lol guess how much I saved...hehehe

Is there a specific potting medium for the spathoglottis? Is it natural for them to go through a dormant stage-- like lose all leaves then start growing again from the bulbs? Mine is going through that and I'm afraid of losing them...

    hi nancy,
spathoglottis are hardy plants, they grow as epiphyte or litophyte, but in general i would say well drained soil and more water during the growing stage.
i experienced the same, losing all leaves and starting anew, seems to be normal.

    Thanks, Ron!
Read in one of the threads that they like manure mixed in the soil. Will try that out. This is the first time my spathoglottis lost all its leaves.. They've been blooming for years. Hope they recover.

@Ron and Nancy-- Huh...both of your Spathos have lost all of their leaves? My smaller two have lost a few leaves over the past month, I wonder if it is the same phenomena? I was thinking maybe I have their water schedule off and they are responding to either not enough or too much water. Historically, I'm not as good with the terrestials.....

Hi Nancy ! My Spaths never loose all their leaves at once, its rather one at a time, by the time the pseudobulb has lost all its leaves usually 4 to 5, there are atleast 3 new shoots developing, so my plants always look evergreen. Weather can influence this behaviour though.

Love them. Nice pics! Maybe you should try to cross them. They'll look fantastic!
