    Default Male flowers

Male flowers of the same species keep changing the behaviour according to the temperature and environment.

Wow....what a neat orchid. The female flowers are awesome! Does it only produce one spike a year? Are the flowers in a given season all the same sex?

As far as I'm concern for the past 2 years only one spike, after one another, its also depend on the size of the bulb , the bigger is the bulb the more flower spikes will appear. Each flower spike is influenced by the surrounding temperature, if the temperature is very hot the most likely female flowers, cold will induce male flowers.
Another species of catacetum belong to me happened 4 months ago, first spike was female and subsequent spike was male flowers. To differentiate between male and female spike quite easy for male the inflorescence is very slim and for female the inflorescence is very thick. You can learn based on observation and experienced.

What an amazing plant, and funny flowers. I find the female flowers on the stem in the first picture look like some kind of 'Inca figurines'; notwithstanding the phallic appearance of all the flowers in this genus.
