I hope Jim wouldn't mind me speaking on his behalf.

Jim of course was of the opinion that Coelandria is a good genus, which is why he was one of the two authors of Coelandria armeniaca. However, when the genus was re-established, the senior author, Mark Clements did not bother to move all the other species still contained within the greater Dendrobium to Coelandria (in stark contrast to the practice employed by Jim and I). Jim of course at that time was in the process of working on his book, and the best way to present the coelandrias was to revert back to Dendrobium, or else readers would get confused as to why we have a Coelandria armeniaca and we we have a plant called Dendrobium bullenianum- the latter is of course a relative of the former. In short, two related plants belonging to two different genera.

Some of you might ask as to why didn't Jim moved Dendrobium bullenianum and its allies to Coelandria, and the short answer is because only the senior author, Mark Clements' only had the 'rights' to do so. Hence, Jim was 'forced' to transfer Coelandria armeniaca to Dendrobium. Again, some of you might wonder why he did not retain the species name, and the answer is because there already is an earlier Dendrobium armeniacum, which was described by Phillip Cribb in 1981.

If anyone of you asks me though as to which name I prefer, my answer is that I go for C. armeniaca.

    Hi Wally,

When you write as fluidly, as you have done here, you may speak on my behalf any time you wish. I could not have put it any better.

    All the best,

    Jim Cootes
