    Default Bulbophyllum carunculatum first flower

This is the first flower for me on this plant... when I received it, there were 2 spikes. Sadly, one died and I am thrilled that this spike made it and has rewarded me with a neat looking flower. I'm not certain that the lower sepals are open all the way, yet. There is a 2nd bud that should open in a few weeks. From what I've read the flowers are very long lasting so we will see.... And, there are no less than 4 new pseudo bulbs emerging from the base!!!!

Congratulations! This one has been on my wish list for some time. I'm glad you got a bloom after the first one died.

I have an extra of this plant that I got at our local orchid society meeting about a month or so ago. Because I suffer from Somtimers Syndrome, LOL I forgot that I had this flowering plant already. The extra plant is sending out what I believe is a flower spike because the new pseudo bulbs are much more broad.

Now you're just making me jealous, Howard. Both look very healthy and well-kept.

No need for jealousy..... just another over-rated and wasted emotion! I'm sure you have some wonderful and beautiful plants in your collection.

Thats a really nice form! I have the typical stark yellow form with no striations and a black lip that looks like a turd.

The illustrated flower is Bulbophyllum orthoglossum, which is found in the Philippines, Sulawesi and the Moluccan Islands.

    This is a lovely stinker.

All my Bulbophyllum belonging to subgenus Lepidorhiza are away from the house.
They cause too much trouble to us because of its annoying scent like cat feces.

Eventhough I hate their scent but I love their flowers after all.

thanks Jim. I did review some pics of B. orthglossum and they look just like mine. I got this plant from, what I believe, is a reputable vendor labeled as carunculatum. I know the later is supposed to be all yellow with no red stripes...
