Default Ascocentrum aurantiacum and Ascocentrum miniatum

    Cheers,

A while back someone asked for the difference between aurantiacum and
miniatum. I was curious myself as all of the aurantiacum i've seen sold hereis sold as miniatum, until Ron and another friend of mine pointed out that miniatum
is not to be found in the Phils.

Anyways Im lucky to have both flowering in the same time... I have a bunch of
autrantiacum and 2 of them are in bloom. Here they are, hope you'll be able
    to tell the difference...

    thanks randy,
i would say correctly identified and a good example of seeing em next to each other, well done!
you see the difference in miniatum, fleshier leaves not as compact and pointed, and the blooms a bit bigger, wider open and a shorter spur.

but your aurantiacum almost had me fooled, coz is such a big and healthy plant, congrats!

I prefer the size of the miniatum, but both have nice cheerful blooms

Yes I definitely saw the difference with them, and i truly understand now the confusion
with both of them. As for the huge aurantiacum, it was given to me last xmas by a
    good friend ...
when i first saw it i thought that it might be an ascocenda or some sort of a hybrid as
this is the largest aurantiacum i've seen. At the same time I asked about the miniatum
and got a lecture with the difference.... eventually my friend gave me both so that i
could tell the difference for my self.... nothing beats first hand experience hehehe.

thanks all and glad you liked it.

The plant you are calling Ascocentrum miniatum is Ascocentrum garayi.
