try to use a tripod and focus manualy, take a meter and mesure the distance from the center of your subject to the back of your camera than ajust in the camera setup the sitance of the center of the focus to the number you mesured or do it on the lens if you use dslr/slr

Unfortunately, Gidi, the plant is in a terrarium which makes for some awkward body contortions and precludes a tripod.

The fact that you took that photo without a tripod means you have skills! Nice work, Paul! It is a nice photograph and a cool bloom. I am guessing that it is tiny too, the bloom?

    Cheers,
    BD

The lip is approx 3/4 inch (2 cm) long. So yes, it is a rather small flower though good size for the size of the plant.

I am impressed that you took this photo without a tripod. I certainly would never have guessed the camera was hand held. I quite like Restrepias, and while not as showy as Masdies, they are probably my favourite Pleurothallid. My only complaints about them is there isn't a whole lot of variation in the blooms, and the blooms are rather short-lived--at least by orchid standards. I have trichoglossa, and it's one of my better blooming Restrepias. My plants suffer a bit from lack of humidity and I really need a terrarium!

    Cheers,
    Rob
