I expect that you are right Angel, although there is one of your nurseries which brought me about a dozen of your orchid species earlier this year which are certainly not in the category you mention. I shouldn't mention their name. I have forgotten it anyway (!) But if I ask them for something, and others do too , eventually, they get the message.

A bit over 20 years ago I went around all the UK orchid trade saying I wanted Vandas. One offered me Rothschildiana "which he thought he could get" - all the others said no way, no-one wants them, you can't gow them here anyway, etc etc...Now all of them import the big vanda hybrids and a few Ascds and occasionally some of the smaller stuff - Pine River Blue for example , all the time. Even my local garden centre sells Vandas and Ascdas ! That's progress .

Isn't there a chinese proverb about water wearing away the stone ?

Angel, the is a stunning orchid! So pretty. I especially loved seeing the buds in the later postings. Fun to see all the changes these orchids go through. Thanks!

    cheers,

I guess you're right, Geoff. Chinese proverbs and the Law of Supply and Demand. LOL.

Over here, if you approach a nursery looking for species orchids, about 90% wouldn't have them, and wouldn't want to propagate them simply because many of these orchids could be had at very cheap prices, or even for free. I did post a species orchid native to the Philippines under "Orchids at the Fair". The Grammatophyllum orchid happens to be the largest species orchid in my country and one of the largest anywhere. Its size is truly remarkable and would be a showstopper anywhere. Even then, only one trader in that entire fair had it.

Thanks Bruce. This one's in bloom again at the moment. I'm just too busy preparing for the office every morning that I always fail to catch the flowers in full bloom.

You're always welcome, Moja. By the way, what's up on the 26th of August?
