Ron, it sent out the first spike about year and a half ago but all buds blasted. It bloomed last summer and now again.

Be patient with yours. Your plant may grow faster because of your warmer climate.

I so like the renanthera group! Bright cheery flowers...and I hadn't realized they bloomed on such small plants. This is one pretty flower!...thanks for sharing.

Connie, most of the species from this genus are very tall and big. R. monachica is a smaller specie. Other other smaller one is R. citrina.

Good to know. I love the look of this monachia and if it is a smaller sized renanthera, I can add it to my collection. It won't take up that much room.

    Cheers,
    BD

You can also look and try Ren. bella, mututiana, citrina and imschootiana (a little bigger). All of them can bloom under 8" tall and very slow growing. Only produce about 1-2 leaf a year.

I like the colour and shape of the flowers, they are better than the imschootiana that I have. I have crossed it with Vandafinetia Blaupunkt and hopefully more compact plants. My imschootiana is 3ft tall and due for cutting back.
