    Default Oerstedella centradenia

Purchased this as a seedling last fall. It's still only about 6 cm high, but managed to pop out two flowers. This is a very cool plant even when not in bloom. The stems and foliage remind me of a tiny bamboo.

Pretty flower, and how nice that it's a precocious bloomer!

I love these little guys. I finally got one (mounted) at out last orchid show, last month. So very cute. I'm tempted to say 'precious', but then that would be really sappy and wrong. Unless I said 'precious' in a creepy kinda way, but that would be a different kind of wrong.

    Um. Anyway. Cute plant.

I have no problem with cute. At times, it just fits. Anyway, have you been having a problem with leaf drop on yours? I have a feeling I may be keeping it too cool at night, but there isn't a whole lot I can do about that. It's growing lots of new roots and even some new growth is starting, but I have a feeling until summer arrives, I may have kind of bare stems.

I've had one stem drop its leaves, but that one was facing downward, so I think that may have something to do with it (I guess the vendor had been growing the mount lying down on a bench rather than hanging on a wall). I just got it last month, though, so I don't really have much good advice on this one. It seems fairly normal though, from other Oersta. plants I've seen, for them to have several leafless stems, so it may be part of the normal process of senescence for them to lose leaves after a couple of growing seasons. If you're having lots of leaf loss, this might be abnormal.

Is yours potted? What medium is it in?

Yes, potted in a kind of standard bark mix. I didn't know these were grown mounted. In a way, the mounting makes sense because of the way this one is growing. All the new roots I can see are going over the top of the mix and down the side of the pot. A clue??
