    Default Epidendrum radicans

    hi folks,

    i've killed several of these "easy growing" orchids, while pampering em. so here is the secret, choose the worst spot in your garden and dont do anything to it for 2 years and voila!

    i really dont know if the pix turn out sharp, im using an old school screen for the next few months and everything is blurry here.

    cheers,

    Nice Ron, I am glad you make it! Your advice is interesting, but I'm afraid that is useless for me: "dont do anything to it for 2 years"....this does not work that way for me, have to do something....constantly... BTW, your pic is sharp enough. You have real beauty!

    That is really pretty. Love the color. I guess I need to ignore mine. Since I repotted them they have seemed to be on the decline.

    thanks branka,
    i know its very hard to ignore our babies. this one chose to, it grows over the roof, no medium, attached to a metal pipe, full sun, no water and no fertilizer. if i say no water, not by me, and it can go weeks and weeks without any good rain.

    @bill,
    see what i mean? and i also just read that you can grow em from the ground, that i havent tried.
    my oberonias seem to have the same temper, ignore em totally and admire em when they bloom!

    anyway, cheers guys!

    Wish I would have known a few months ago that "benign neglect" is the way to go with this particular orchid! I gave away several pots of them; all healthy, with lush growth. Never got them to bloom for me! Oh well...but I don't think that they are fragrant, or are they? Betty :-(

    hi betty,
    cant sniff on it, just to take a shot i had to ask my "father in law" to climb up from their roof to bend the spike, hehe.
    you see, thats the message from this plant: i bloom now, but you cant see me, ha!

    @bos
    cheers!

    Thanks Ron for the tip. I have killed so many reed epidendrum that I have never tried them again. I never realised that it was all that coddling! Going to get some soon, now that the secret's out.
