Yew, does this have any scent? I imagine it must have one as most catasetums and their hybrids have.

I can just imagine how huge this plant must be now after 30 years in your keeping. I love it because they do resemble birds in flight. Hmmm .... is it too bold of me if I ask for a "donation" of a division for me just like how your friends have divisions of your plant? Philippines and Malaysia aren't too far apart from each other. LOL!

Actually I wouldn't mind donating Jojo, but how are the regulations in the Philippines concerning importing and exporting plants? Malaysia is very strict about both exports and imports except for registered commercial growers who have special permits for both. I could post but if detected by the postal authorities or customs here they would just confiscate and destroy it.

The plant is not huge because I keep dividing the pseudobulbs.I keep back 2-3 pseudobulbs in a pot because old p-bulbs tend to rot and infect the front bulbs. I nearly lost the lot once while trying to grow it into a specimen plant.

Yes I know what you mean. It is the local customs authorities here who are very strict on the importing and exporting of plants (among other items). They refer confiscated plant items to the Bureau of Plant Quarantine who in turn decide the next move. Having a proper plant importation permit (which I was told doesn't cost much) and a valid CITES permit (which is really very messy, expensive to obtain - sometimes costing more than the actual value of the plant) usually gets the plant through customs with no snags but it is really time-consuming to apply for and a headache to obtain with all the red-tape. Usually small, inconspicuous packages pass with little or no inspection at all but it is a hit-and-miss process -- a very high risk of losing the package is involved if it just isn't your luck. Custom inspection of small packages could be done anytime - random, regularly or none at all - depending on the season, mood or directive of the customs office assigned at the postal office area.

Oh, I didn't see your and Jojo's posts before, but guess what, I have an import permit and quarantine facility, so Yew it's definitely not a problem for me hehe, Also if you are personally accompanying the plants the customs people also are not that worried and I don't mind travelling to Malaysia again, I have missed Genting and Lankawi last time.

I'll be attending the WOC 2011 too, if I'm still around , that is. Even though it's still early I have already made plans to attend.Staying in Singapore is no problem as my second son lives and works in Singapore.

See you there then, and hopefully other members of OT too.
