    Default Grammatocymbidium Lovely Melody

I just got around to photographing this one that has been in bloom since June. I bought it last autumn knowing very little about it except I loved the pictures of the color of the blooms and the info that it was supposed to be fairly easy to bloom as a warm grower and that it would and could bloom at any time of the year and sometimes several times. I was really pleased when it set spike in the spring and started to open in June and has been going strong ever since. Hope it hangs on for orchid society meeting this Sunday. I would love to hear from anyone who grows these and hear what you do to keep them happy. This is a variety I could really get into. It does have a slight fresh floral scent during the afternoon.

Very easy to grow these guys. Keep them bright and and they grow like weeds. Mine bloomed with every new growth and it seemed to always be putting on growths. More often in bloom than not. Love the fragrance too!

This guy seems to have taken after the Cym parent more than the Gram parent so I don't think size would be a problem.

Lovely blooms. Reminds me of Cym Golden Elf.

Hi Bill, Could I ask a pic of the whole plant and of the PBs? Because I've bought a plant tagged as Grammangis stapeliiflora, but definitely, it's not, and I'm thinking it's one of this hybrid. Thank you!

As i have remarked in my last post this plant looks very much like the Cym Golden Elf. which is not surprising as it is a cross between Cym Golden Elf x Cym ensifolium . Your Grammangis stapeliiflora could be the synonym for Grammatophyllum stapeliiflorum which is one of the smaller Grammatophyllums and the plant looks very much like a Grm scriptum or martae. Here in Malaysia it is sometimes referred to as the Black Tiger Orchid.

Btw a breeder in Thailand has crossed of lot of warm Cymbidiums with Grammatophyllums and most of the plants have turned out looking very much like the Cymbidium parents, and most of them are heat tolerant.

Grmcym Lovely Melody doesn't grow very tall, but it will spread out as any Cym does. Definitely a compact grower as far as Cyms and Grams are concerned. My plants are very close to being grown in direct sunlight, and my guess is that they will do fine grown outdoors.
