Hi Randy, yes the Cymbidium finlaysonianum and these local Philippine Cymbidiums grow into huge plants. I have them in Baguio. However, it seems that it doesn't like the cool weather in Baguio. I may have to move them to Manila or Nueva Vizcaya.

    What is your experience?

    Mabuhay!

@delphinguy...congratulations! i have always love cymbidiums. Always!!! Anyway, just let the orchid eat away the wiremesh if you're not sure how to divide it. Actually, if i were you i would use a sterilized saw, the one we use for cutting metals because it has fine "teeth" and just cut it in half. But then again, you can just place the whole plant in its new location and it will just eat away the darn thing. hehehehehe...Congratulations again.

Wow, that's one big beautiful orchid growing there, I vote on a larger wire pot if you're not brave enough to saw it into pieces or cut into the existing mesh with wire cutters. - martha

to the looks of your cymbidium, you can split it to 4 plants, what i did to my cymbidium clump is separate the large plant with young sprout and clean the roots by removing old media and cutting the rotting roots, you can easy distinguish the dead root from the live ones.
dead root looks like a pale gray and easy to pinch and water occupies it like a sponge while the live ones looks stuffed and yellowish in color, sometimes hard and crisp. From my learning upon trimming the unwanted part , the plant is almost bald in roots, but dont worry. the younger shoots or plant will sprout new robust roots. :-)
