    Default Bulbophyllum profusum, philippines

    hi folks,
this species is endemic to the philippines and grows semi/pendulous, flowers are closing up over night.
while taking pictures this mosquito went totally nuts over the bloom, stuck his trunk in there and hopped from bloom to bloom.
it also shows how small the flowers are, the mossie was bigger!

    cheers,

Very nice Ron.... nice shot of the mossie too... is it the polinator for these species?
anyways I'd be worried with the mossie as Denge is quite common these days.

I was suprised to see a mosquito with it's nose in a flower. And it was a rather interesting looking mosquito too. Great shot of the flower and mosquito...more and more the pics on here are very good!

    Nice shot.

This is what i got off google.

Mosquitoes have mouthparts that are adapted for piercing the skin of plants and animals. While males typically feed on nectar and plant juices, the female needs to obtain nutrients from a "blood meal" before she can produce eggs.

Now you know the gender of the mosquito

    Cheers
