    Default Malleola constricta, philippines

    hi folks,
here is the "true" m. constricta, originally collected in leyte by Wenzel in 1912,
    referring to the constricted spur.
i put up a picture of the former constricta, which will be given a new name, and you can see clearly the differences.

    cheers,

    Hi Ron,

This is a very interesting comparison. I'm a member of a species identification group for the American Orchid Society. We got photos of a plant of the "former M. constricta" but, not knowing anything about the plant that you say is the true M. constricta, we verified that the photos were of M. constricta. Now, seeing your post, I wonder how the two species got sorted out. Can you direct me to a publication or a taxonomist who could explain it for me?

Thanks, and I must say that your comparison photo makes the difference crystal clear,

    Steve Beckendorf

    Hi Steve,

we described the former M.constricta as a new species, Malleola flammea. I can email you the description if you want. You can also email me your pix and see what you've got there.

    Thanks!
