    Default Cycnodes Wine Delight

I was walking along rows and rows of orchids when I caught an overpowering smell of perfume. I looked around and found no one around me. I followed the smell and this is what I found.....Absolutely fragrant, stronger and better than perfume.

    Yes Vincent.

The Red Wine Delight is really a delight to the senses .... both visually and olfactory.

It is also an easy grower. See the growing guide I posted for this group of orchids in my "After Dark" post.

    Cheers.

It's Cycnodes. Hybrid bet. Cycnoches and Mormodes I think.

These are so cool - not only because of the great flower shape, color, and fragrance, but because of the way they shoot their pollen. If you trigger the pollen, it will be ejected out away from the flower with a real force. One must be careful when giving these a sniff so that you do not touch the center of the bloom with your nose or you will end up with a face full of pollen. hahah... After the pollen is shot out, the flower bloom will close and die, so don't do it too many times or you will wreck your beautiful blooms.

    Cheers,
    BD

Beautiful flower. The scent makes it that much more appealing. Very cool fact BD. I think I will put this on my wish list.

Cycnoches lehmannii x Mormodes sinuata. I've never seen either of the parents. Wine Delight has been meristemmed - the particular clone was JEM , which I think had an AOS award. I've got it too ,and have been told that mine is one of this clone ; but here in UK maybe we are a bit later in season , and my buds are just swellings on the bulb, starting out. I've had 10 flowers on a spike in the past, but that could easily be beaten I think ;my best Cycnocdes such as Taiwan Gold manage three spikes at a time on a good bulb.
