Bruce, I thought you encouraged me to create this special thread... I am not sure what the latest problem of this thread is. You may delete the whole thread if you think this may cause any problem. I have no problem with that and I don't think anyone else who has posted in this thread will have probem either if you delete it.

There are only very few pictures here that have not posted separately in their own threads, plus, if it is your photo, you can always find it in your computer, so what is the problem, Ron and Geoff? The original purpose is to create a thread for ("your" and "tiny" orchids. with some basic requirements, nothing else!

    hi tom,
its about the "tagging", once a post isnt tagged, the search engine wouldnt find it, not for us members and for visitors, as far as i understand.
correct, we all have the pix in our computers, but in case there is name changes on plants and/or you want to update, i think the trouble starts again with "tagging".

personally, i totally love this thread and since my internet connection is quite ok, im always able to go through pages quickly.
for people with a slow connection, there is going to be a hassle in the future.

so, lets see, if we can come up with something suitable for all of us.
    bruce?

The tagging thing is my least concern, but I understand the internet connection issue for some members outside of U.S.

    Hi Tom,

You are correct, I did and still do encourage you to start/post-in this thread and I, like Ron, love this thread. (I rated it 5 stars and there are not many threads I ever rate!) I like seeing the similar sized plants together this way, but as Ron explained, it is about finding them in the future. This thread is already 18 pages long and currently there are only 10 tags. I have not counted, but I am pretty sure there are double that number of plants posted within this thread. And I agree with Geoff that this thread is growing fast and will continue. Additionally, I do not see any harm in posting a plant in this thread and in its own thread so it can be tagged and searched for as well as indexed by search engines for future use. (One could even include a link in this thread to the single thread for additional comments and growing questions, etc... (or not). I don't believe it will lessen the coolness of this thread and certainly don't want anything deleted. Ron's point about access on slower connections is a valid concern as well. I want to keep the info here open and easily searchable. (Like Geoff said earlier - often new members find our community when searching for a particular plant's name.) I hope I have made my intentions more clear and appoligize for any confusion. I love this community and want it to be easy to access and use for all of the visitors and members. Thanks for your efforts and to all who have posted and continue to post here.

    Cheers,
    BD

Thank you for the explaination, BD. I thought you were encouraging people not to post their photos in this thread any more because of the tagging issue... Sorry about that.

    You're doing great Bruce.

AS to tags , I don't do anything about them with any of my posts ; probably I should ?; but what ?
Maybe there is already somewhere on the site which tells me- and you might gently lead me by the hand towards it ( metaphorically speaking ) ?

What I get out of this thread is looking at other people's postings, and finding orchids which have passed me by , and which I will want to think about growing myself now that I have seen what they are like - as well as being able to get a bit of proper info' about growing them, or maybe even problems solved . ("Proper" as compared to the usual meaningless generalisations written in coffee table books... or by folks who are not orchid growers at all. My own postings are not because I can't find things on my own system ,but as a contribution/thank you/ quid pro quo - someone else may feel the same about my orchids as I do about theirs. .

Geoff, I think I can help on your question. When you start a advanced posting, just below the box where you would post your comments and verbiage. There is a box for tags. Which you can place the type of plant, the cross of the plant or the color of the bloom. That is where the tag information is located. I hope this helps, Rich

Right; I'll try that out - see my latest posting in wherever I am going to put a pic of a Brassostele, I have just fetched in and snapped for the purpose.

no, somehow or other it didn't. The "Advanced" box only came up after I had done the post. How tro get to it before, instead of after ?
