    Default Masdevallia mendozae

From my favorite subsection of Masdevallia, Saltatrices.

Species in this subsection have all three sepals deeply connate into a tube. The petals and lip are hidden within the sepaline tube. Many species are thought to be pollinated by moths or hummingbirds.

    M. mendozae occurs in Ecuador (Zamora-Chinchipe) at elevations of 1800-2300m. The tubular flowers are 2.5cm long. Plant size 6-7cm. I/C grower.

Very attractive plant, and the flowers form, substance, and color are hard to beat.

There are more like that ; I used to have a bright yellow one which was very similar, can't remember the name - I sold all my Pleuros and Masd' almost 20 years ago in order to turn that greenhouse into one for Vandas - from the sublime to the ridiculous you might say. Maybe its time I went back !
