Cirrhopetalum species

This is a discussion on Cirrhopetalum species within the Orchids of Other Genera IN BLOOM forums, part of the Orchid Photography category; Origin, if I'm not mistaken from Sulawesi free flowering 4 to 6 times a year....

    Origin, if I'm not mistaken from Sulawesi free flowering 4 to 6 times a year.

    This one is identified as Bulbophyllum longiflorum. But I guess there's some differences...

    This plant was originally described as Zygoglossum umbellatum by Reinwardt in 1828. Then N.E. Brown named it Cirrhopetalum pulchrum in 1868. J.J. Smith transferred it to Bulbophyllum with the specific epithet pulchrum in 1912. Unknown to J.J. Smith this species had also been described as Cirrhopetalum elegans by Tejsmann and Binnendijk in 1862. So the name for this plant can be either Bulbophyllum pulchrum, or Cirrhopetalum elegans.
