Ian, it is a cool bloom. Perhaps the new member, Rogier, who has posted some pretty interesting information on Bulbos can help? I don't know if he has enabled his pm system yet, but the visitor message system is default for him by now. Also, check with Ron-NY - just send him a pm with a link to the thread. He grows many, many bulbos too.

    Cheers,
    BD

    Hello Ian

Pfew!! This is a dificult one. Honoustly I cannot say what this one is. It look like Bulbophyllum forrestii but the dark red tips of the petals are odd.

If you don't mind I'll as this to Jaap Vermeulen next time I see him. He knows a whole lot more about Bulbophyllums than I do. I'm actually not reallya a Bulbophylum person but more terrestrial orchid person. I just happen to work with a lot of Bulbophyllum. And they are so nice.

    Regards

    Rogier

Such an interesting colour ; I love these orange flowers . And in a group, they give a remarkable centre of interest.
I would suspect that its a Cirrho' - or Bulbo sect Cirrho if you are a purist, although with this number of flowers its difficult to be sure.
I heard a joke once about some S-E Asian country, about it having 2 thousand orchid species and also 3 thousand bulbophyllums....implying just how difficult it is to name and identify them, and wondering whether all had yet been found.

hi Rogier, after when i did some searching into bulbophyllum forestii, this is what i cited
"Distribution Indo-China. This species together with B.helenae are often confusing to collecters. They are very similar except for the serrated-erose dorsal on B.helenae, B.forrestii has entire edges to the dorsal sepal. It also has a more or less orange colour."
after searching into bulbophyllum helena, found that the pics i post looks more similar to it than forestii. and also notice the lip, its funnel shape for bulb helenae (like the one in pics) and not semi-open like bulb. forestii. i am almost zero about bulbophyllums, so any second thoughts would be aprreciated. thanks for the info.
