Ornithidium sopronites now. First flowering of a seedling I bought in the summer ;now moved from the original 2inch net pot to a 3 or 4 inch plastic basket ( one of those octagonal jobs) since it likes my conditions and treatment so much ; it ois now up to no less than six new growths .
The same colour ( I think I would call it vermilion ? ) as the Max.sophronites I posted on - I think it was page 6 - of the Tiny orchids thread , but quite a different flower shape. I like this plant.
However the flower shape here is much more typically Maxillaria than the M.sophronites, I think - for example it reminds me of other maxillarias I have seen and grown in the past - that large-floweerd one - M grandiflora ? in particular.
Love the red, sparkly blooms. Wish the blooms were larger like they appear in your close up photo.
I like this orchid Geoff and I am glad that its doing so well for you with all the new growth taking place. A lovely red , almost a burnt orange. AL
