    Default Maxillaria spilotantha

Photographed at a nursery in Ecuador.
This is one of the Maxillarias that has two types of growth, some with bulbs and some without.
Beautiful species - makes almost a shrub when it's a big plant.

Very cute flowers! What a weird growth habit! From you pics, it looks like it flowers only off of the bulbless growths?

Very cool species! I like the spotted blooms on this max. Is it also fragrant?

    Cheers,

I like the plant and the blooms. This orchid's flowers in general have a "candy like' quality to them.

    They do look like candy!
If there is a fragrance, it's not a strong one at the times I've been near the plants. I stick my nose into most of them to see what I get.
Yesterday I was taking pictures and I stopped to check the soles of my shoes, thinking I might have stepped in something unpleasant. Nope. Masdevallia colossus blooming about 12 feet away.
