Default Black, blacker, blackest Orchid Fredclarkeara After Dark

Its in the catasetiniae of cours - Fka ( abbreviation) is Mormodia x Catasetum, and I think Mormodia is Mormodes x Clowesia (?)
A right awkward - sorry bad language not allowed here ! ***** to photograph !

Orchid flowers perhaps not at their best - I had been watching them, and wondering if they were going to open further, for a month, then went away, and came back two weeks later and the first to open is going over.

First flowering here ; you can see the bulb on it when I bought it at the European Congress in September 09 , my bulb is twice as big, but I'm sure that if I can keep growing it well it can double again. These catasetum types are very generous with flowers I find.

Its in a 4 inch pot which gives an indication fo the size of flowers.

A dark, lovely orchid. Hard to believe such black flowers can exist. Striking.

    Cheers,

This orchid fascinates and enchants me Geoff. Some day I will splurge and spend the $100.00 plus shipping for this orchid. Until then I can admire what you have raised. My compliments on these blooms Geoff and welcome back! AL

50 Euro - about forty five pounds or US$65 at the going rate at the time - at Dresden , 2009. Sold by a well-known US paph breeder who visits Europe frequently - I can resist his amazing novelty paphs at three figure prices, but he caught me with this one !
