    Default Is this Bulbophyllum cummingii

I bought a clump of Bulbophyllum from a local orchid hobbyist. He said that it is Bulbophyllum cummingii but recently it sent out 4 flower stalks and it looked more like Bulbophyllum flabellum-veneris. What do you guys think?

I did emailed him to tell him my suspicion but he still insisted its B.cummingii.

    Hi Vincent,

Cirrhopetalum cumingii and Cirrhopetalum flabello-veneris are very closely related, and it is possible that they are both the one species. In which case Cirrhopetalum flabello-veneris would be the epithet to use at it was the first one validly published.

    All the best,

    Jim Cootes

I have found at least two consistent traits that separate the two species apart, one of them is the presence of a pair of tubercles on the base of the labellum of Cirrhopetalum cumingii, which is lacking in C. flabellum-veneris.

I would guess that Vincent's plant is C. cumingii, as I have seen tons of plants of this species that looks very much like that.
