Encyclia cochleata

    I got this in bud actually, and it has only had the one so far, but i will upload a pic of the rather healthy plant soon to the thread

    Yes, It actually does blooms a lot when mature. Mine has black/yellow/white on the lip though. Betty :-)

    Love this one and yes it is a frequent bloomer. Mine has the name Leprechan attached to it.

    Very pretty, Jordan. Nice dark colour on the lip. It has been moved from Encyclia to Prosthechea now. Take your choice.

    If yours is called Exotic's Leprechaun it is a hybrid that is 3/4 Prosthechea cochleata and 1/4 Prosthechea trulla.

    Encyclia is out taxonomically, but the arguement between Prosthechea and Anachelium rages on. RHS uses Prosthechea for hybrid registration but it seems that most commercial and hobby orchid growers are still pretty resistant to using RHS classification in the Cattleya alliance, so you see a lot of Encyclia cochleata and Anachelium cochleatum out there.

    i dont think i want a name war on MY thread guys lol, but thanks for the clarification Yew, i do prefer Encyclia, as it is much easier to remember!

    haha....anyway, i do prefer encyclia....easier to remember, and doesnt sound so weird!
