Well, it's an alba because it's white (alba, albus and album means 'white' in Latin), but it isn't an albino due to the presence of anthocyanin pigments.

@mr suarez, it isnt an alba for that reason. it also has the yellow collumn too, so its more a semi-alba, or maybe a semi-flavus? more unlikely. Keep in mind, for an orchid to be "alba", the whole flower must be white, with very little or no other pigmentation. but anyway....

    Hi kiwiorchids,

Technically, it is an 'alba', since it's white. The problem nowadays is that when someone gives an 'alba' designation to a plant, people would instantly think that the flower in question is an albino, which shouldn't be the case. The flower doesn't have to be almost completely white, since many true albinos bear green or yellow colouration in combination with white- the albino form of Euanthe sanderiana is an example of this, where green completely replaces the normally red-brown shades. For a plant to be qualified as a true albino, there should be an absence of anthocyanin pigments.

    Happy orchid keeping!

according to eberyone at the waikato orchid society, it isnt alba, so im just going on knowledge and what everyone else tells me. also, the grower i got this off told me that the OCNZ rejects it as an alba form too
