This is a discussion on Maxillaria tenuifolia within the Orchids of Other Genera IN BLOOM forums, part of the Orchid Photography category; I have been waiting for this guy to open for about two weeks now..... Maxillaria ...
I have been waiting for this guy to open for about two weeks now..... Maxillaria tenuifolia 'Maximus Yellowfeet' as i have named him...haha i know what your thinking...hahaha ....decides to open up and make my room smell like summers near.... On my birthday!!.....what a nice surprise....haha...he's been growing like crazy the past year....enjoy as i did!! ps.. you might need some sun tan lotion near by to get the same effect as i have....hahaha :P COCONUT!
Love these! Can't wait for mine to bloom! It does smell a bit like tanning lotion as opposed to coconut cream pie as people say! Do you subject yours to cool temps at all?
Very healthy plant. I like the leaves and pseudo-bulbs on the Maxillaria tenuifolia as well as the flowers. Someday this will I am sure be a 'Maximus Bloomer'. AL
This year this plant was everywhere....haha....I got it in tampa florida beginning of last year. Lived there for 4 months. Then August last year came back to Massachusetts to grow by my window. Then December to Maine where I left it for 3 days in a 30 degree car, totally forgot...haha..Then back to Massachusetts... I was giving it full sun from 12 noon till dusk. Then opening the window at nights a little bit to drop the temps.....at this point temps would go from 50 nights to 75+ days for about two weeks....I had to stop tho...I was getting cold at night....hahahaa....This plant is a Gypsy as you can tell...haha...so if that doesnt help you beat the crap out of your orchids...then i dont know what else would....haha
Thanks AL....the growth habit is very cool... im with you on that one. Its definitely loving live right now
