mmm.. sounds as though it should be wonderful... but any expensive plant is always a risk.. My plant came from a flask of about 5 seedlings , maybe 10 years ago , but it took some years for me to learn how to grow them - but I sold several which more than paid for the flask.

I have a tiny one of these, basically a seedling. I'll show it your pictures and give it encouragement! Thanks for all the information and tips!

Yes it is a great orchid, when I got mine in 2008 it was in spike and gave me 8 blooms. Since then it never would spike for me again and then last year it ended up dying on me during the summer. Geoff we would like to know what you did to get it to bloom for you before I go and buy another one cause it is one that I have to own once more, but only after I find out the proper care, I tried everything I could find for 2 years to get it to bloom for me again.

Great healthy plant with great flowers and great shots too.
This year mine just doesn't think about having some flowers, I do not know what is wrong. Does your have a very bright light? And durign the winter time, does your have some rest period and more cold environment. I've read that ite needs a little more cold rest....which also had.

Geoff, it's not an monotypic genus. They are two kind of Sedirea. Sedirea japonica, native to China, Japan and Korea, as you said and second, Sedirea subparishii from China. My plants have been flowering in March this year. The picture is older.

I grow in sphagnum moss and spray frequently - I wouldn't dare treat a phally like that, it would get bacterial rot I'm sure. I also hang it up , for good air-movement, which probably also helps it to dry out between spreays. Wish I could be more helpful !

I got a definite improvement when I switched to sphagnum moss as the compost - I think it is actually moss/Perlite mixture . I hang up, and spray frequently . I don't think light is very critical , mine has been in two different locations, and I intend to move it back to the less bright of the two now.,

Geoff - that's the best-looking Sedirea I've seen - mine is simplistic in comparison. But I want to know if you ever got the Sedirea subparishii - I think I have to have one, too!
