Lars, Do those buds open? or Do they just stay unopened as they were in the pic? Nice, unique blooms though..

They are as open as they get. They do shoot their pollinae out (the spike at the bottom of the flower) when the flowers move too much though

Rent the female flowers supposed to be ugly and the male flowers showy or something in this genus, this one has got the male flowers also alien looking LOL !

I'm becoming quite a fan of these types of male flowers. Is it possible to find one that only blooms male flowers or are there special conditions required?

Reallt like this one. Cool flowers and love the color. Another one that would be a great design element.

According to my info', male or female depends on growing conditions especially temperature. Personally I find the male flowers are the ones I want to see - a lot of the female ones seem so similar from species to species as to be hardly worth - correction - not worth, growing. But so far in my short experience with the groupo, I have always produced the attractive flowers only.
I think it is cooler for male, warmer for female . You will find it in the specialist book on the genus, but my copy has been borrowed by a friend or I'd look it up for you.

Most of the time you get male flowers. In fact these are male flowers: C planiceps is one of those plants where the male flowers aren't pretty. I wouldn't have bought it, but as is often the case with Catasinae the plant was mislabelled.

I find this orchid really cool, Lars. I will have to google the female blooms now.

    Cheers,
