Ceratostylis rubra is a synonym of C. retisquama. However, we might need to take a closer look on the taxon named as C. latipetala. Of the few specimens I have seen which came from near the type locality- in Mt. Malindang on Misamis Occidental on Mindanao- the stems are longer and much more pendent, with flowers bearing conspicuously broader petals in relation to the sepals, and a shorter labellum midlobe. Furthermore, plants which fit the description are found at altitudes higher than that known for C. retisquama.
