    Default Masdevallia vargassi

My first Masdevallia flower for 20 years ! I used to have a small greenhouse devoted to cool, and cold growing Pleurothallids - mostly Masdevallia, Dracula and allies, but when I decided I wanted to try Vandas, and had no space, "she who must be obeyed" ( joke based on a past very popular tv programme over here ) said - "no, no more greenhouses". So I sold all the Pleuros, and made that greenhouse my first vanda house.
But recently I decided that a few might grow well on the shady side of my greenhouse, so I started to collect. Like I say, this is the first to flower.
One of what I call the triquetrous ones ( this term has apparently gone out of favour - now it's in Sect. polyantha). These have triangular flower stems - there is a special name for that too, but I can't bring it to mind. But the point is that these repeat flower from the old stem over a period of years. Nice (!) now if only all orchids would learn that trick.
IOSPE says, btw that the flowers are 3/8inch. Can't think where that came from, they are about 3 or more cm long and ignoring the tails, open more than 3/8 inch , say 15 mm
